The Growth of Solar Jobs: and What It’s Like to Work at Apollo Energy

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

Solar capacity is skyrocketing across the country, bringing more employment opportunities than ever into the renewable energy space. In fact, according to a report released by the American Clean Power Association (ACP), 500,000 to 600,000 solar, wind, and battery storage jobs are expected to be created in the United States over the next decade.

Playing our part here in Denver, Colorado, Apollo Energy is proud to participate in the country’s clean energy transition by providing employment opportunities in our local community. In 2021, we have been recognized as a B Corporation “Best for Workers” honoree, which we will cover in more detail below.

America’s Clean Energy Transition

Last year, we witnessed the country’s renewable energy infrastructure eclipse the coal industry in both the number of jobs and actual electricity produced. Today, renewables remain ahead, with the majority of jobs growth in the solar, wind, biofuel, hydroelectric, and storage spaces.

In the same ACP report mentioned above, the study also found that renewable workers receive higher-than-average industry-wide wages. As a bonus, many of the industry’s construction jobs also receive significant union support to provide benefits and protect workers’ rights.

Now that solar has officially become the cheapest form of electricity ever, it is hard to imagine that new installation capacity will be slowing down any time soon. Not only will this continue to create more construction and labor jobs, but the growing industry will also provide additional opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, and other professional services.

Apollo Energy is a “Best for the World 2021” B Corp Honoree

With America’s clean energy transition well underway, Apollo recognizes the necessity of sustainable business practices within the renewable space. Our leadership team has always put people before profit, which allowed us to become a certified solar B Corp in Denver at the beginning of this year.

With five-star reviews from both our employees and our solar customers, every action we take is backed by the responsibility to do what’s right for our community. Since our first solar installation, Apollo has always focused on:

  • Providing employment opportunities for underserved communities

  • Always paying our employees a living wage with attention to employee retention

  • As well as open and honest communication with our customers and partners

Just recently, however, we were surprised to be recognized as a B Corp “Best for the World 2021” honoree with honors as both “Best for Workers” and “Best for the Environment.” Evaluated by our business’s impact on community, customers, environment, governance, and workers, we are honored to receive these recognitions, reserved for only the top 5% of certified B Corporations.

While our mission and business are centered around doing what’s best for the environment, we are equally honored and thankful for our employees that have enabled us to grow and succeed.
